I found Berrima through an internet search as a quick ‘in and out’ off the Hume Motorway for our journey north and then discovered the ‘Bakehouse Motel’; my Sister and I were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed our brief stays. The staff welcomed us warmly and efficiently on first arrival. Upon return, the telephone inquiry and subsequent booking for arrival after office hours is also to be commended; the process was smooth with sufficient reassuring communication for two elderly ladies.
The recently updated facilities exceeded our expectations and I am surprised that the internet only gives the Motel a three (3) Star rating; I believe it should be four (4).
Our only disappointment was that we did not have more time to explore the beautiful village of Berrima and all that it has to offer. The Surveyor General Inn fed and watered us magnificently both nights (up and back), staff were kind and courteous and would you believe at 70 and 80 years of age, we were the last patrons to leave at 9pm last Wednesday, my we laughed, it’s been a long time since we were the last ones to leave a pub!
A compliment also to the Magpie Café, breakfast was a delight with good old fashioned service, slow, but nice and to those who say it is too expensive, well they mustn’t eat out much or perhaps just stay on the highway and eat ‘Service Centre’ food. The food was deliciously prepared and served with great local conversation which sent us on our way with no need for lunch!
Thank you Berrima, we’ll be back with more time to explore, though not in winter…..

I have been visiting The Bakehouse for over 20 years and its well placed within Berrima, for walking around the village and the river, and of course strolling around the lovely shops. Their latest renovations have made for a lovely, bright, airy and clean rooms, especially the terrace rooms that look over the garden and forest. There are garden seats placed within the gardens, if you want to have a stroll with the ducks, or a quiet coffee under a tree. The addition of an amenities room with microwave, plates and cutlery is a really handy addition, as a lot of the cafes and restaurants are only open between Thursday and Sunday. The cosy Surveyor General Inn (pub) across the road is always open for dinner, and is a short 2 minute walk. The beautiful, landmark Magpie Cafe, right next door to the Pub, is open everyday for breakfast and lunch. There is lots of useful information about Berrima and surrounds in your room. This is a really lovely motel.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at Berrima Bakehouse very much – we had been travelling and staying at country motels for 10 days, and it was a definite favourite! The room was lovely, spacious and light, and the facilities are excellent, with so many thoughtful inclusions. The access to the kitchen for microwave, milk, cereal etc is a great idea. As mentioned on Review Card in room, the only suggestion I could think to make is to perhaps have a choice of Light Milk in kitchen!!
Even in the rain, the gardens are beautiful, and location so close to shops and Surveyor General Hotel much appreciated as well.

The motel is in a very central location. The twin room we booked was excellent, very comfortable, clean and well set out. The gardens are beautiful and the staff are very helpful and cheerful. Although the location is on the main road we couldn’t hear any traffic noise, very quiet. Just a walk across the road to The Surveyor General Inn Hotel for an excellent meal, we found that other restaurants in Berrima were closed on Monday and Tuesday nights. Thank you for a lovel stay, hope to be able to return in the future.

Our decision to visit Berrima was quite spontaneous and we enjoyed every moment of a break from Sydney. Berrima has so much to offer and your motel is so ideally located central to everything and we appreciated this so much. Your grounds are truly beautiful and you obviously take incredible efforts in keeping them that way. We thought the spacious lawn by the river would make a lovely tranquil spot for an outdoor wedding. The rose gardens at the Bakehouse motel are amazing.
Huge blooms along the fences and climbing the shed. Everywhere you look.
The quaint shops and cafes, the iconic stone Pub, the 1830s cottages and their gardens.
Stroll around the village and there is always more to see. The gaol looks imposing, but the gardens and setting soften it, along with the cottages.
Decided on dinner at the pub, a steak that was excellent. Many other restaurants took our interest too.

A real test of motel management is how well a problem is handled. The night’s stay was comfortable and location is very convenient. In the morning we discovered no hot water for our showers. We provided feedback to the management who got back to us very quickly and resolved the situation to our satisfaction, Berrima is a great walking town, lots of history, with opportunities for coffee and shopping. We would recommend this motel.

The friendly person I booked with on the phone was very helpful, and the 2 rooms she suggested were very clean, modern and comfortable. We enjoyed a stroll down to the river behind the motel, and on a hot day the table and chairs under the vines were perfect for a pre-dinner drink. Great 5 night stay at the Berrima Bakehouse. Good value relative to other local accommodation and nice and central for local attractions and villages for day trips. Some good to excellent local eateries so generally no driving required, except most seem to only open Wed thru Sunday, so you need to travel at the beginning of the week Bowral however close enough to cater for that. Or the pub across the road with nice fires and typical pub food.
